NOM.NOS
A quest for real roots, before our colonial history started.
26 April in Parktheater (Eindhoven)
NOM.NOS means ‘Name us’ or ‘Our name’. A dance theatre performance about the importance of knowing someone’s past in order to shape the future. Through West African myths, rituals and tribes, the dancers embark on a quest to find their original names. They are all part of the West African diaspora and carry the colonial names given to their ancestors. Where lie their true roots? And what richness of history and tradition were there before our colonial past began?
It is a performance for which Gil the Grid drew inspiration from his roots, tracing back from Cape Verde to Mali and Senegal, and the West African origin of the other cast members. Through dance, puppetplay, rituals and stories, the cast connects itself with their ancestors, their roots, and their invisible lifeline to the mother continent.
The authentic and unique movement style of Amenti Theatre Company creates a performance that brings magic to life, but also critically examines how the world has shaped up so far. Complemented with puppets and scenographic advice from Ulrike Quade Company, NOM.NOS becomes an interdisciplinary whole.
April 26th at Parktheater (Eindhoven).
