Roman and ELIZA
Performance information
Expected in spring 2026
Duration of performance: 75 minutes
Roman and ELIZA: a production that explores the boundary between technology and human emotions and challenges us to think about memory and loss.
This moving performance takes you on a journey through the essence of connection and parting. Roman and ELIZA is a mosaic of stories and emotions, in which the audience actively participates, giving space to their own associations and emotions.
The production is inspired by ELIZA, the very first chatbot, and the poignant story of Roman Mazurenko. After his tragic death, his grieving friends decide to load their Whatsapp conversations into chatbot ELIZA, ensuring Roman’s digital survival. While his family struggles with this digital shadow, his friends find solace in their conversations with the virtual Roman.
“Eternal life in the digital age”
At a time when technology is penetrating ever deeper into our daily lives, this performance explores the impact of digital memories on our relationships and our grieving process. What do these new forms of survival mean for us?
‘Roman and Eliza is a poetic journey through the world of digital memories and human emotions,’ says artistic director Ulrike Quade.
